Skimming vs Plaster Repair: Which Do You Need?

Not every wall needs a full skim. Here is how to think about patches, cracks and tired surfaces.

If the damage is localised, a plaster repair may be enough. If the wall is uneven, heavily patched or covered in old defects, skimming the full surface usually gives a better decorating finish.

Start With the Surface

Loose or blown plaster should be removed and made sound before any skim coat is applied. Good preparation is what keeps the final finish looking right.
